Week 12 Assignment #2

Integrating technology into literacy instruction makes learning fun and enjoyable for students. It is also very important because students need the ITC skills and technological skills in general once they leave the confines of school. There are many ways to incorporate technology into the classroom. One tool that I would love to use and incorporate is story spine so students can have fun using the technology and gaining great skills at the same time. I think that with the new generation of students it is especially important to make learning extra fun! Week 9 QRI5 and DIBELS

QRI5 A QRI is an informal reading assessment tool. It's purpose is to determine a child's reading level, place the child in an appropriate reading group, choose a appropriate reading material for the student, track growth and much more. It is also helpful tool when planning lessons. The testing includes word recognition and comprehension. I think it is really helpful on so many levels for teachers of students of all ages. It seems to be very clear and easy to use. It also seems simple to analyze the results and use them to determine the next step. I hope to use QRI5 as a literacy teacher. DIBELS DIBELS is a set of short tests that help teachers assess their students knowledge of literacy skills. It is a great indicator of future student performance. It is also a great way for teachers to identify students who may need extra intervention to hel...

Week 8 Assignment 3: Fluency lesson plan

Fluency Lesson

Week 7 Assignment #5

I did the 4 assessments on Chava a 2nd grader. What is very interesting about Chava is that she is a very strong student who taught herself how to read at a very young age. She is a fairly fluent reader and can read books at a pretty high level, however she is missing a lot of skills that students gain from the in class lessons as will be seen in the results below: Print Awareness:  Chava has great print awareness. She was able to locate the title of the book and the author. She was able to count words in a sentence and how many sentences were on the page. She was able to locate the beginning of the pages and was able to locate a specific word when I gave her directions. The only term Chava was not aware of was paragraph. I would continue to point out all the different important parts of the book and include paragraph. She is a bright child and I am sure she will catch on quickly. Phonemic Awareness: This is the skill that Chava is greatly missing. At first I started by asking ...
